Sights set on a new destination, but unsure how to get there?

When sailing, North was most often the direction to home for the Vikings. Aside from this, it was where the prevailing wind blew from; the wind that blew in a constant, steadfast direction.

On clear days, they would use a sundial-type instrument, but what about the days when the sky was heavy and there was no glimpse of the sun?

It is thought that they used lodestones as an early form of compass. When suspended over water, a lodestone will float or turn to the North. It won’t happen instantly, but it will happen – it will reliably turn to home, the North, and the ever-prevailing wind…

I’m Clare Dudeney, I’m a Counsellor and Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapist, available to help you find your ‘true North’.
